Impending Teachers’ Strike Is So Predictable

teacher strikes loomThe Teachers’ Union and their members, are not happy.  Where have we heard that before?

First was the Elementary Teachers of Ontario (ETFO), who voted in December 2014 with a whopping 95% agreement, to go ahead and strike should talks break down with the Wynne government.

A few weeks back, Ottawa area High Schools were announced as being one of the areas where the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) planned to walk out because they have been without a contract since last August.

In the last few hours, the same Union, has come out swinging:

The union is threatening to withdraw services at seven selected school boards: Peel, Durham, Halton, Ottawa-Carleton, Waterloo, Rainbow in Sudbury and Lakehead in Thunder Bay.

Ever notice that these birds NEVER choose to strike during their summer vacation? I guess walking the picket line during the summer months is too distasteful when it’s compared to sitting in a Muskoka chair somewhere, sipping a chilled wine cooler and the smell of BBQ in the air.

Anyhow, Wynne has announced that she wants the unions to stay at the table.

Yeah ok.

Wynne wants to dictate the ground rules to a group who helped get her elected.

And she’s going to hold them to austerity?

Oh please.

Various school boards could be in a position of strike as soon as the end of April.

Hold on to your wallet and let the games begin.
